Query re 4g/5g if upgrading phone

Currently using an iphone SE 2020 which is 4g only and on the o2 classic pay as you go which doesn't offer 5g data. Thinking of getting a new handset which would support 5g but a bit unsure about the situation in view of the current tariff and sim.

Can I transfer my current sim across to a new phone and just have to accept that I'm still only on 4g or would it not work, meaning I need to move to a new 5g tariff? Tried a google but ended up more confused than when I started, so thought I'd throw myself onto the tender mercy of the forum!

    You'll find the Classic O2 SIM will work fine in a 5G phone (mine's a Samsung A54 5G).

What you won't find is 4G calling (VoLTE) or WiFi calling but that's as per your current handset.
