Why would it need a SIM? I can do the same banking on a computer connected only by Wi-Fi.

well sorry but I'm on my first ever smart phone and it never occurred to me that it would work without the sim it came fitted with.

Yes, it is perhaps worth making it clear that I do not use the 'banking' phone for calls, texts or WhatsApp. (I could do WhatsApp via the browser, but it's not worth the effort ...)
