vehicle classification & tax

Bought a 3.5t panel van, was professionally converted to a 4.5t horse lorry. In the past you sent off the V5C and supporting documents to DVLA to change the classification from N1 to N2. You get a HGV MOT and pay the tax for Private HGV vehicle accordingly. This is what the government website advises -

In reality it is different...

I did the above but received a letter in reply saying that a vehicle taxation class cannot be changed, (contrary to the Gov website) so my V5C states it is a 3.5t vehicle with permissable weight of 4.5t

The problem is that I have to have an HGV MOT as it is a 4.5t lorry but can't pay the tax for this vehicle as my paperwork states it is a 3.5t vehicle and the GOV website says my MOT status is 'No details held by the DVLA' and cannot pay the tax for a LCV (3.5t) tax as I don't have a valid MOT for this class.

I hope that makes sense. Can anyone shed any light -cha

Did this professional conversion include submitting it for an IVA test to change the type approval category from N1 to N2?

Up-plating a vehicle is not straightforward, especially when it takes it over such a major licencing break-point as 3.5t.

You need to be talking to the converter.

Have you tried taxing it in person at a post office? Maybe the online setup isn’t capable of reconciling the change in status.

The converter has been and still is being amazing. We sent off all the forms together as they have been doing this for years but my vehicle is the first one that has had this response and others have followed as such.

Yes I have, the post office use the same system as we do to check, and as my vehicle states "No details held". they cannot take payment.
