Parking and property management, 12 fines

Hi,
While staying at my I laws I was getting fines for parking in their underground parking. I have stayed at this property on and off for 2 years and have the parking pass and key fob to get into the car park. I am the only person to have this pass for the past 2 years and I still have it now

The parking pass was moved off the dashboard when I had my MOT and I didn't notice. When I went home I had 12 seperate fines for parking in this space which is allocated to my in laws

I did question this with them but they want to stick with the charges totalling £1200. At no point was a notice put on my car that I shouldn't be parking there during this time, they just kept issuing fines without telling me

I'll have to appeal as I definitely can't afford this. Any advice with these guys?

All your appeals will fail with PPM
  • It's not a fine, it's an invoice for an alleged breach of contract. Chirpy Chicken is right, the parking company will reject your appeals, they always do.

    Who is the parking operator?

They said I can appeal with the ias but I'm not sure if they will just reject it as well so I'm a bit stuck on my next steps
  • The IAS is a kangaroo court. I didn't bother wasting my time appealing to them with my tickets You can try it but expect a rejection. They only uphold 4% of appeals.

Your next steps do not involve the IAS

Underground parking suggests your in-laws are in a flat. A read of their lease would be a good start. Leaseholders have primacy of contract over parking firms. You need to read it and see what it says. Also look up Jopson v Homeguard. A search will find it. The judgement is at the level of the appeal court so persuasive but not binding on the lower courts.

Yes, the lease. Also check their signs say you must display. A lot say "permit holders only" and then only mention about display in smaller type below.

For £1200 you might be best talking to Contestor Legal.

Exactly what the NEWBIES PLEASE READ THESE FAQS FIRST already tells you. This is nothing different and you don't have any fines.

If you get a claim from Gladstones, use Contestor Legal's no-win-no-fee offer to strike the claim out. Read about it on the forum!
