yep; sorry, it didn't work a couple of times then, but ok about five hours ago

oddly, some numbers seem to be reachable off-peak, but not daytime

Thanks IKR2, just tried calling an 0870 number using abroadtel's prefix: 0844 721 0001 followed by 0044 / 870... and it works!! So, if you cannot find an alternative landline number on the excellent site https://www.saynoto0870.com, this is the way to beat the b******s!!!

Thanks Pricefighter, is it essential to use the 1280 prefix to bypass any carrier preselect, eg TalkTalk?

No Talk Talk charge the same as BT to call 0844 no,s.

Let us know if it still works, i had heard the loophole had been blocked.

Strangely, an 0870 number that was reachable during the daytime a couple of weeks ago appears not to be reachable this morning.

I tried it earlier to call both a 0845 and a 0870 number neither were reachable, but they rang if you dialled them direct.As i mentioned in an earlier posting i had heard the loophole had been blocked.

I'm abroad so can't check, but I found that several numbers had access off-peak but not daytime.
