So, did you actually pay £17.50 which is 50% off £35, or did you pay 50% of the £17.50 which would be £8.75?

When did you first take out the broadband OP?
Almost 3 years ago now. They've never really changed their base prices (£35 for 150Mb) in those 3 years.

The provider is Jurassic Fibre. Although I want to say, that up until this, they've been a faultless provider, both their engineers during installation and support during technical hiccups, have always been extremely courteous.

This post is meant more to discuss the rights surrounding supposed 'forever discounts' and whether the provider can simply just pull the offer whenever they feel like it.

£17.50 includes the discount. I believe the price hasn't changed for the standard package (smarthome 150 - £35).

Well the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations (CPRs) was in place 3 years ago which prohibits misleading actions that alter the transactional decision of the average consumer.

Promising a "forever" discount to build up a customer base and then taking it away appears disingenuous to me and could fall foul of the CPRs.

I would put this argument to them to see what they say.

    Regarding varying the terms:

    https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/450440/Unfair_Terms_Main_Guidance.pdf

5.21.1 on page 98 discusses this in line with the Consumer Rights Act requirement for terms which may be unfair.

I'm not sure how these fixed period contracts work, they obviously don't end completely after the fixed term as your service would stop and you don't have to make any communication with the provider for the service to continue after the fixed term so is that still the original contract?

Breach of CPRs would be my main argument OP but I'd follow their complaints policy first:

Would you have signed up still if they had offered you 50% off for three years?

Certainly, as I mentioned in my 1st post. It's a great deal and worse case in this situation is that I just got cheap fibre for 3 years.

The point of this post is to discuss the legality of rug-pull discounting.

I can't directly respond to your post the_lunatic_is_in_my_head but thank you so much for the advice. I'll go down that route for now and post an update.

Don't think you could use the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations then as it didn't alter your decision to sign up.
