Yes it can be awkward when they keep changing.
But as Bill S Preston (esquire) said "Be Excelent to each other" and things generally work out.

Not going to offer anything on UC as Newcad has given great advice, but have you looking into claiming PIP before reaching SPA?

I did wonder but I'm a bit confused about PIP age requirements - I understood that you couldn't claim it from the age of 65 onwards but then when I look it up on Google all the replies seem to say state pension age. I'll have to look into it. but is it worth it for 3 months - by the time the paperwork's completed I will be retired and so the claim would end.

It’s state pension age, which is 66. https://www.gov.uk/pip/eligibility

PIP doesn’t just stop once you reach this age. Providing you start a claim before this age you can be awarded because your claim will start the day you ring to apply. If awarded it will continue for as long as you remain entitled to it.

One thing to note is if you have mobility issues it's very important to start your claim  with PIP as if delaying you would have to claim Attendance Allowance and  that has no mobility component.

Thanks poppy - I didn't realise that, I'll take a look into it.

Thanks, fortunately I don't have mobility issues but I'll look into the claim process pretty sharpish, it may be worthwhile.
