Hi forumites, asking for some advice please. I currently have an induction hob , which is the bees knees imho, sadly I am going to lose the use of that, pacemaker / defib to be fitted.
So I am wondering if you guys have experience of non induction which you would care to share.
I don’t want to have a gas one too much disruption to the kitchen “lines” , Mrs DCM wont wear that.
Now going to cry in my dinner.
Many thanks

I moved into this house a few years ago, I had always preferred gas, I thought electric hobs were too slow. The house came with a ceramic hob that completely changed my mind. I've just bought a new cooker and went with ceramic again.
I haven't ever used an induction hob so can't compare with those, ceramic probably isn't as good (well, it's cheaper) but I am happy with my ceramic and the 'clean lines' mean extra prep space when I'm cooking.Debts 04/01/25 01/04/25

Presumably gas isnt an option?
Then you'll be looking at a ceramic hob, look the same as induction when off, controls very similar but generally slower to heat up and cool down and as the heat transfers through the glass it gets hotter and you'll get stuff burnt on it etc.2 -
Thanks both, I realise ceramic the only feasible alternative, I should have said makes too doh.4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . Aint no sunshine ☀️ Octopus gas fixed dec 24 @ 5.74 + Octopus Intelligent Flux leccy0

I'd second a ceramic hob. You'll have to get used to the residual heat after it's switched off and slower to heat up etc. However, compared to the older electric hobs, it's so much easier to clean and it won't beep at you when you show it a wet cloth! 🤣0

Is it wrong to say let Mrs DCM do the hob cooking and you can do the barbecuing and oven cooking?
Or don't rip it out and get yourself a 2 plate ceramic

They dont cover a massive spread of options as there arent a massive number of makers of them any more and most the top tier brands dont offer them anymore... Miele has a single one left in its range, Wolf and others have fully stopped making them.
At the other end of market Beko and AEG appears to be the only brands offering more than 2 options and both go down to 2 options if you're a standard 600mm width.1 -

My retired parents have a ceramic hob and is a big fan. They'd only had those curly element rings before that, so it was a big step up - although they had to get used to the even slower response speed. It'll be a bit of a come-down after an induction hob but they look smart and work acceptably.N. Personally wouldn't buy Russel Hobbs, not the greatest of fans of Smeg so for me it would be the AEG one by a process of elimination only.1
