Can a pensioner receive higher pension credit on disability?

Are they eligible for an extra £81.50 a month if they receive Attendance Allowance?

Yes providing they live alone or treated as living alone. Which means if there’s any other adults living with them they would all need be either registered blind, or claiming a qualifying disability benefit such as PIP daily living, DLA mid/high rate care or AA.

No one must claiming either carers allowance or carers element of Universal Credit for looking after them.

How would the procedure be for them to make a claim for this additional amount?

By claiming Pension Credit, as it's paid in with this known as Severe Disability Addition. (SDA) https://www.gov.uk/pension-credit/how-to-claim

It's £81.50 per week, not per month.

Do you have to claim the SDA if the PC is already being received. How is it done? Is SDA income dependent?

SDA needs to be claimed by ringing PC and will increase PC entitlement, if eligible. It’s not a benefit on its own. The person needs to live alone or treated as living alone. No one must be claiming carers allowance or carers element of UC for looking after them.

Can you clarify the following please.  I get PC and AA but hadn’t heard of any disability premium.  When I looked on the Gov website it states that the disability premium is only payable for people under PC age.

I put my details into the online benefits checkers again but nothing about disability premium came up.

Are you referring to the disability premium of £42.50/week? If so then this is only paid to those claiming either Income Support or Income Related JSA, The only disability Premium payable when claiming PC is Severe Disability Addition. (known as Severe Disability Premium when claiming benefits such as Income Related ESA/JSA and Income Support)

The following is from the turn2us website. I get Attendance Allowance, Pension Credit and Housing Benefit. According to this the SDP rate is £81.50

Can I get a Severe Disability Premium?

To get a Severe Disability Premium (SDP), you have to be getting an income-related benefit. This could be:

    Income Support
    income-related Employment and Support Allowance
    income-based Jobseeker's Allowance
    Guarantee Pension Credit
    Housing Benefit.

You also must be getting one of these benefits:

Attendance Allowance (or Constant Attendance Allowance paid with Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit or War Pension)
    Pension Age Disability Payment (Scotland)
Disability Living Allowance care component at the middle or highest rate
Personal Independence Payment daily living component
Adult Disability Payment (Scotland) daily living component
    Armed Forces Independence Payment

How much Severe Disability Premium will I get?

There are two rates of Severe Disability Premium:

Single person rate - £81.50 per week
Couple rate - £163.00 per week
