PAYE AND SELF EMPLOYED INCOME

I work 18 hours on minimum wage and am also ungainfully self employed. I receive universal credits.
My PAYE doesn't quite meet the £892 needed for UC on a 4 week month. When I queried about taking on the self employed job, I was told that it would be good as it brings my income up over the £892, so I took on the job. The following month I'm told the self employment income doesn't count for what I need to earn even though they use both incomes to calculate how much UC I receive, so now having to attend work search reviews.
I've asked countless times why the self employment isn't accepted when they are using it to calculate my universal credit and it brings my income up to if not over the amount I'd get working full time on minimum wage, but noone can give me an answer.
Can anyone shed some light on this as I feel like I'm banging my head against a brick wall with UC?

This is correct, self-employed income does not count towards the AET, so if the self employment is not gainful (i.e, not your main source of income), then you will still need to earn over the AET through paid PAYE employment. This is the policy and it will be covered in the UC Regulations (somewhere). There is nothing you can do other than try to increase your paid earnings to above the AET if you do not wish to attend regular appointments with a work coach.1
