Injured on head by Optical barrier turnstile glass!

Hello,
Opinions on what to do please.
Basically, a week ago, I was leaving my workplace and had to go through one of the many optical turnstile barriers that have been installed recently at my workplace (educational setting)
The place is like Fort Knox to get in and out of now.
Unfortunately, one of the head height glass barriers hit me with an almighty force right on my eye socket.
This has in turn caused a massive bruise around my eye and is still tender and I thank God that it didn't hit my nose as I'm sure that it would have broke!
I straight away reported this to my workplace via the online systems in place.
I fully expected the next day that the particular turnstile (or better still, all) to have been deactivated, but it/they were still in operation.
The online reponse from Health & Safety that day was that there was going to be an 'update to the software' the following week and that 'hopefully, this would resolve the barrier issue'!
I notified my boss and he'd escalated the report to an 'injury at work', which apparently, it wasn't, which I would it would have been given that the words 'hit' and 'face' were in the initial reporting.
My boss told me that he himself had recently gone through them and the glass turnstile doors had slammed back on both of his arms, but I don't think that he reported it.
Also, apparently, some other people had had their bags caught up in the shutting barriers as they were walking through.
I have had no further communications at all from Health & Safety, nothing at all, no 'Are you okay'. Nothing!
What is worrying to me is that, it's a week later now and I'm getting the feeling that maybe they are wanting this to be swept under the carpet, especially as they know that I will be leaving the job very soon.
Are they keeping quiet in case I make an injury claim?
I really do not want to do this, I don't want the hassle.
However, I certainly don't want anyone else to be injured and possibly much worse.
It will have cost an absolute fortune to buy and install these turnstiles, and I suspect that they will now be in a lot of educational settings which is worrying.
Grateful for others' opinions on this please.
TIA

What are you actually looking for?0

I don't want compensation. I really don't. I just don't want anyone else to be injured. Has anyone else been in a similar situation?0

Does your union have a health and safety rep?0

Well, I'm not in a union and I don't even know who the rep is in any case, and from past experience, I feel that they would be ineffective anyway.0

I don't hear much about the union, except when they are trying to recruit. However, I'll look into it. Thanks:)0

There should either be posters around the building detailing who is responsible for H&S in the workplace, or you should have been given that information individually in some other form. I know you said you'd reported via an online system, but surely there's some way of escalating it?AinsleyFatCat said:

And I would make the Union H&S rep aware of it. And maybe next time, join ... you never know when you might need them, especially when working in education, health, social care etc.

I would suggest you ask your manager for a copy of the injury at work paperwork so that you can show that to your doctor (or some other story....if they get bolshie about it tell them it's for your solicitor).
If you are given a copy then they will need to retain a copy as well which will somewhat go towards what you are trying to achieve which is basically a record that there are problems with their set up.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe and Old Style Money Saving boards.
