Growing strawberry plants in pots with holes in

I wonder what the experience is - if any.
We have some nice tubby pots on offer here and with my tiny garden it's a way of growing something up and leaving a bit more soil free.
Also maybe, away from the chugiepegs and slugs.

Of course there is the awful compost problem but first things first.

Any thoughts would be welcome.

I grow strawberries in pots, but I just use ordinary pots not the specific strawberry planters. It seems to work alright. They do get slugged if you don’t pick them quickly enough, but I think that would happen wherever they were to be honest.

You can grow strawberries in hanging baskets.

I have grown them in a grobag.

Blackbirds and thrushes are partial to strawberries.

    Grammersows, then?
Re. strawberries, I've grown them in grobags, in earthenware troughs and in the gravel of my driveway (the latter was accidental). They've even sent tendrils onto my patio, at times. But I've never tried the pots-with-holes-in! Might have to give it a go ...

    Poor Brie ;)

    I've got a gravel spot. That's a thought.
I've got a Silver Thyme growing out front because the back one keeps getting eaten by something and it's thriving in a stuffed full, north east bed.

Yes, times have been tough for a while and just painted the kitchen artex ceiling with a bad hip and trapped muscles so feel I deserve a treat.
Just hoping they are still on offer. Hopefully after this cold spell no one with any sense is gardening.

I'm sure I've read somewhere that all chuggiepigs are female...
Don't throw sodium chloride at people. That's a salt.
  • Brie - I think they're talking about pillbugs, or isopods...

Indeed I thought so too Bluey. That was info from QI I think ;)
But aparantly not quite so and the males can get a virus that turns them female. Perhaps that's where the rumour grew.
And they are good for the garden - not strawberry fruits though.
