Does Travelzoo have genuine deals?

Hi all

Its been years since Ive used Travelzoo. I seem to remember that the deals on offer werent that great, or I could get just as cheap buying direct from the hotel. But perhaps Im wrong.

Are the deals 'genuinely' good value for money? If so, I wonder how they they obtain the deals.

Are there any alternatives to Travelzoo?

Any tips/tricks on using Travelzoo or similar for mostly UK getaways?

Thanks

I have moved this to the UK holiday board as I think you are interested in the UK side of Travelzoo?

I have used them, but not recently and did get some amazing UK breaks. I tended to do a couple of nights with included dinner or something in smart hotels, one up in the North York Moors cost more per night booked direct for B and B than I paid for Dinner B and B.

I am though extremely cautious, I check the reviews (some of the hotels offering the mega cheap deals have poor ratings) I check direct with the hotel on a like for like basis before I buy. I did look at one for last November but when I went to book it it had already sold out - but with that one it also included a bottle of wine in the room plus Dinner bed and breakfast at little more than the hotel was doing for B and B.

It pays to do research and sort out what are real bargains for good hotels and what are just cheap hotels trying to fill their rooms. I also tend to avoid the stupidly cheap deals and would never under any circumstances for instance even set foot in a Britannia hotel.

Ah great, thanks @soolin . Some good tips there! :)

Ive just been looking at hotels in Dorset for February, and TBH - from what Ive seen - its just as cheap to go on the hotel's website. I do need to do a bit more research though, rather than a cursory click-around, so perhaps Im doing a disservice to Travelzoo.

Very occasionally they do a good deal on an attraction, but it is rare.

For travel though, the deals aren't good.

Which did a review of the chain hotels a while ago and Britannia were the bottom of the list by quite a long way
