Travel Insurance - adding new medical condition

I took out multi-trip travel insurance for uk travel only in January (diff company than previous years cover) For myself and my husband. My husband take meds for blood pressure which were named as pre existing.
This week he has been referred to a consultant re hip pain which sounds like it may lead to a hip replacement rather quickly. I'm assuming I now need to add this to the insurance by adding this as a new pre-existing condition. Has anyone had experience of adding something new to their travel insurance and was it as straightforward as I'm thinking it should be? thank you

If he is waiting for tests and does not have a confirmed diagnosis then you are likely to find that either the condition will be excluded or in some cases the insurer will withdrawal cover all together. They really don’t like not knowing what something is and at the moment you can’t add another condition to the insurance because you don’t yet have a confirmed diagnosis for the cause of the hip pain. You also can’t add a pre-existing conditioner on because anything pre-existing should already have been declared when he took the insurance out. This would be a new condition, presuming he wasn’t already seeing the GP about the issue when the insurance started. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Thank you, no this is new since the policy was taken out, so my wording was wrong, really then when we hear back that would be the time to contact the insurance company if it is confirmed as a hip problem, thank you that makes sense.0

You just contact them to add a condition.
Even things such as "hip pain" may be something you can add, although whilst you are awaiting a diagnosis, they probably won't cover anything related to the hip pain so often they note it down as declared but not covered until you get a diagnosis, they they will cover it, but it should still be declared as it can void your whole insurance if you need to make a claim and you haven't disclosed it.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Quick Grabbit, Freebies, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning and the UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.

Arthritic is often something that doesn't have to be declared, if no other reportable conditions require cover. Even if you have reported other issues, reporting arthritis which is generally the cause of the pain shouldn't be an issue. With the NHS it could be a long wait even to see a consultant.0

So an update, I cannot add this to the policy, the trips we had intended on going have already been booked, so the insurance company will not add a new condition because of this. I'm lucky that all the trips and associated ferry travel/connections can be cancelled/moved with no cost incurred, bar one which would require cancelling before the balance is due. leaving just the deposit that would be lost.
On the subject of the hip pain, things are moving very quickly and clinician appointment and x-rays have been done, he has now been put on a hip replacement waiting list, luckily there is a shorter NHS list option in our area that he has opted for.0
