Tenancy Transition from Assured Shorthold to Periodic Tenancy - Deposit and Notice Period

My assured shorthold tenancy is coming to an end, and I understand it will automatically roll over to a periodic tenancy unless I or my landlord take action.
My questions are:
1. Will I still get my deposit back when the tenancy transitions from assured shorthold to periodic?
2. How much notice would my landlord need to give me to ask me to leave under a periodic tenancy?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

1. Your deposit remains a deposit until the end of your tenancy ie when you leave.

1) Your tenancy isn't ending, so the deposit isn't required to be returned at this stage. When you vacate the property is the usual time to settle any deposit disputes and have it returned to you.
2) Your tenancy agreement should specify what notice is required (CPT) otherwise it reverts to statutory terms (SPT). Typically it's 2 months notice for the LL to issue notice. Note that this doesn't actually require you to leave the property or end the tenancy, just that the LL has to notify you that they will be commencing legal proceedings to start the eviction process.2
