Single letter correction in name on ticket of international flight

I have booked air ticket from London to Amritsar (India)vod Air India from Travel Up website.
I have only one name (given name) on my Passport i.e. Jaswinder Singh. So as per Airline Guidelines, i typed in this name in First Name as well as in Surname while making booking.

However While entering information, I have entered "Jawinder singh" instead of "Jaswinder Singh" in first name column ('S' missed by mistake). However my name is typed correctly in surname i.e. column "Jaswinder Singh".

I contacted both Travel Up as well as Air India, but they are saying the correction is not permitted and I have to cancel and re book the flight ticket. The problem is that there are cancellations charge as well tickets price have increased to 1.5% of original price.

Air India website sys genuine correction upto 3 letters can be done but they are not agreeing to it.

I need suggestions how can I get this correction done without cancelling and rebook process.  It is still one one and half month to fly.

I can imagine Air India would have allowed the correction had you booked direct with them. However you went via a third party, i'm presuming because it was cheaper then booking direct? As such you're bound by their T&C's when it comes to name changing/correcting.

I've flown before with similar mistakes and it was fine.
The issue here is that Air India won't help because you purchased the ticket elsewhere, likely cheaper, and it's cheaper because they wait for customers like you to pay any additional money to do changes.

Try calling air India again and ask if they would allow you to fly with that kind of misspelled name.

It's not harassment, it's the rules you accepted buying through an "agency". If your flight was to be cancelled, booking direclty would result in full refund - through agency - they will take like £50 service charge..

It's few % cheaper to buy, but when things don't go according to plan there is a list of fees - and that's how they can afford cheaper prices - at someone's cost.

But honeslty, call Air India and ask multiple agents if it would be a problem with "one" mispelled letter - if at least 1/5 agents say it's fine I'd go with their recommendation.

Also on Air India website it says:
    1. Name corrections on bookings can only be done by Air India
    https://www.airindia.com/in/en/passenger-name-format.html

So I would push multiple agents telling them that and also that your agent told you that  B) Soemtimes someone may just let go..

... I have entered "Jawinder singh" instead of "Jaswinder Singh" in first name column ('S' missed by mistake). However my name is typed correctly in surname i.e. column "Jaswinder Singh"...
Apologies if I'm demonstrating my ignorance of Indian first name/given name and last name/surname naming conventions, but are you saying that you put "Jawinder singh" down as your first name and then put down "Jaswinder Singh" as your surname?

If that is what you've done, I'd have thought it would take more than a three letter correction to put it right.

That's exactly what I thought too, and I agree that it's not a simple correction. I won't be surprised if cancellation and rebooking is the only way to resolve this, and if the OP does do this then it would seem sensible to put Jaswinder in first name and Singh in surname.

Ok so his ticket is something like:
    John Smih John Smith

If it's still month and half to fly I would seriously consider buying a new ticket - ask TravelUp how much would it be to get it fixed - but expect it to cost more than buying a new ticket.

Thanks dear for your time, may ask why would you consider it will be more than three characters correction

From what you have written it appears that instead of putting your first name as Jaswinder and your last name as Singh, so your ticket is made out to Jaswinder Singh, you are saying that you put Jawinder singh as your first name and Jaswinder Singh as your last name, so your ticket is made out to Jawinder singh Jaswinder Singh, that requires thirteen letters to correct.

As others have pointed out as you booked through an agent Air India do not have to allow a name change or minor amendment, which is an issue with not booking direct.
The problem is that there are cancellations charge as well tickets price have increased to 1.5% of original price.
A 1.5% increase is negligible and so irrelevant, how much are the cancellation charges?
