PC game to recommend?

I haven't been into PC games for years now. I used to be into the Dooms and Wolfensteins years ago amongst a few others. I've just had a new PC and would like a couple decent games.

I'm after something along the Doom/Medal of Honour/Wolfenstein theme as one game. Also (as a second game), is there a decent Star Wars shoot'em up game? The Star Wars games always seemed quite crap and never seemed to deliver what you'd expect.

I was thinking about Resident Evil 4 but reviews don't seem too great for the PC.

My PC spec:
2 mb RAM
plenty of free HDD space
NVIDIA GeForce 8600 256 mb
Core Duo Viiv 2.66 GHz

I want to spend no more than £20 for each.

Cheers

  • Why don't you try out a couple of online games, such as America's army, its a mega download, great gameplay, pretty good graphics, but best of all free
  • maybe battlefield 2 or 2142? if you plan to play online that is.

    Farcry.

Medal of Honour - Allied Assualt
(MoH - Airbourne is not as good and is very graphics and CPU intensive - just my opinion )

    Half Life 2 series.

All a few years old now - so should be able to get them at a decent price.

You could try this. All the games are superb, and you can download all of it, so no going to the shop/waiting for delivery.

  • Another vote for Orange box, great value. As for Star Wars shooters, have a look at Star Wars Battlefront I & II. They are a little old now, but are great games, and can be got mega cheap now.
I was also looking forward to RE4 on PC, but unfortunately the reviews say that it was a pretty poor port of the console version. Biggest problem for me is the reviews suggest you can't use mouse control properly.

Call of Duty 4 has just come out as I'm pretty sure that would run no problems on your spec. Like MOH more of a war shoot em up, but for something more along the lines of Wolf 3d you could try the new Soldier of Fortune however I don't know if its any good but the previous ones were pretty enjoyable (well more comical being able to shoot limbs off).
  • DEFINITELY

    Half life 2 Gold Box

comes with Half life 2 - amazing single player FPS. Counter strike source, best multi player game around (fps) as well as team fortress 2

And also, Portal which is a puzzle game in first person.. amazing stuff! :)

Also recommend World of Warcraft by the way :) Nothing like a good RPG to take up time and make you enjoy life!"

    Now now.

You bunch call yourselves moneysavingexperts and then forget to offer one of the cardinal rules of advice......TRY BEFORE YOU BUY. :A

The guy should buy a couple of gaming magazines that come with a free DVD of the latest game demos.

You can also download loads of demo games from the internet free. Type "pc demo game" and make your choice.
