Wow lucky you moving to New Zealand! It's probably not the most moral of ideas, but since you're moving country, can't you just cancel all your payments to these companies via the bank, close your accounts and then go away? It's not fair that companies like this charge £50 a time for cancellation before the end of the contract/subscription.0

cant do that because i own me own house so bills will still be able to come here its just so complecated it is not £50 cancellation its the full 6 months rental tht i have to pay and cant really afford that on top of paying for everything else thanks anyway aany other ideas?OCTOBER/NOVEMBER WINS- HOLIDAY TO DUBAI/IPAD 2/KINDLE AND LOTS OF OTHER OTHER LITTLE BITS I LOVE COMPING!!!0

Reduce your tarifs to the minimum possible.
You could also transfer the sky to a friend for a cut price? Speak to the companies they may be able to suggest other alternatives. The other option with Sky is to get a slingbox, so you can watch your subscribed channels via the net.0 -

Contact the companies and tell them your moving house. Don't tell them that you still own that house. But instead of telling them your emigrating give them an other UK address to send the bills to. Give a friends address maybe, so as you can be informed of what communications they send you. Or if that's not viable you can pay a weekly fee for a short term residential address that you can contact to see what mail has arrived. I had to do this once (for different reasons though). There's normally quite a few in the business section of Exchange & Mart starting at about £1 a week. Obviously cancel all your direct debits/standing orders prior to this.
You could also sell your sky box and mobile on ebay before you go.:rotfl:0 -
thanks for that very useful shall try that but about the mobile phone tht wrks out in newzealand so i wont be selling that lol xOCTOBER/NOVEMBER WINS- HOLIDAY TO DUBAI/IPAD 2/KINDLE AND LOTS OF OTHER OTHER LITTLE BITS I LOVE COMPING!!!0

Not sure if it works that way, but maybe you could have the line suspended for that time until the contract is due for renewal? A friend of mine did that when she spent 6 months in Argentina, and it seemed ok. THen again, she did pick up her contract again when she got back, so I'm not sure if the months are just added on afterwards or if they are removed...I :heartpuls Procrastination.0

You should be able to get out of both of these. Check your T-Mobile to see if they've started charging you for 0845 or 0847 numbers - lots of people started their contract with these numbers covered by their inclusive minutes, and then later the phone companies changed the rules and started charging for these. These was a breach of contract and means that you can get out of your contract without paying any fees. I did it with my O2 phone without any problem whatsoever.
The Sky contract should be fine too, tell them that you're moving, and usually they will only insist that you take the contract with you if you're moving somewhere that you can still use Sky. Obviously you can't use it in New Zealand! Therefore they should cancel it for you.
Hope this helps.0 -
Really?
I started my Contract in about march last year and its an 18month one, Dying to get out but im not playing any big fees so i am going to have to wait,
Interesting though, I have just made a call to sky on 08702404040 for over a minute and i am going to see if it charges me or not,
If it does is there anyway i can proove that they didnt charge me when i got the contract and its chnaged so i could get out?Things that are free in life are great, well most of the time :beer:0 -
I guess you could just look at your old bills, and compare. For most contracts the change seems to have taken place around August/September, but I think for some it was a little earlier. Most got a very low key text message to tell them of the change, so some forgot about it until they got their bill.
Alternatively, you could just call them and play innocent with 'I've just noticed you've charged me for this call, I'm sure I didn't used to pay for this - could you check for me?'
I also had an 18 month contract with O2 and was only about 8 months into it. When I called them up, they were really helpful - they'd had hundreds of cancellations for the exact same reason, so just told me exactly what I needed to do to cancel - no hassle at all.
I'm sure there's a thread on MSE about it somewhere if you do a search. Alternatively, take a look on hotukdeals.com0
