Hi I'm new so hope I can get some good guidance. I hired a loss assessor to handle my house claim in 2023. But I soon felt they were not wholly acting in my interest I.e furniture was "disposed". A meeting followed to resolve contents claim but when asked about whst the valuation was, as i thought to part ways, i was told it was still not available. This was 4 months into claim. About a month later I receive a email confirming valuation but no further explanation. Then a few weeks later was told to attend a pre start meeting for works. I reluctantly attended still not comfortable with handling of this whole claim. Soon cracks appeared with builder and extra costs for other works. Finally, I ended further work and reluctantly agreed to let them value work. It came to 20-30k. I felt too much for new ceilings top and bottom and skimming. First stage rewiring and moving gas pipes to new wall less than 10 feet away. If anyone has any view on this, I would be grateful for hear. I wish to know what my position is to defend this claim as I didn't get chance to sign and return the works contract. Thanks in advance.

Was your Loss Assessor FCA authorised or not?
Are they a member of the CILA?

With the limited details it sounds like maybe you had work done in relation to your insurance claim and then additional non-claim work done arranged by the same people?

What's your insurer's position been to date?
  • I think they are fca regulated. Do you know how claims are handled normally? It was my first time.

There is no singular way claims are handled, I have had clients who deal with claims in house, who outsource it to a third party administrator, who delegate it to an intermediary. Some have their own loss adjustors, some use externals but dont outsource the claim itself... many different permutations are possible and thats just considering consumer products in the UK.

I see. So if someone who hired a claim management Co to deal with a major claim. But was unhappy with the service are they able to settle matters before restoration works? Or are they tied to management company on signing authority. Thanks.
