  • Apart from what Farway has posted, what it showed for my family was a total load of rubbish.

  • Oh well, mine doesn't exist - Sharkie - all that I know is that it is of Scottish origin.

Sorry to spoil the party, there is no such thing as family coat of arms in UK

These web sites are aimed mainly at gullible Americans and their dollars

During my research I have found at least 12 different coats of arms associated with my name and the one on this site isn't one of them. It is almost right in saying that it is first found in Gloucester in 1086 but omits the obvious fact that it is Norman French, which is a bit of a clue as to its real origin. Maybe they never heard of Guernsey?

I have two linked to my family and they are nothing like them. The family motto is correct though.

It showed the Crest of my Sept of my Scottish clan correctly, but it's not a Coat of Arms as they said. And it listed septs, we are a sept of a bigger clan.

Which clan are you? We may be related.

I have early de la Mares in my tree - William de la Mare of Wickensands & Woodmancote (b. 1150) was a distant ancestor of mine. Do you know if the Sussex/Surrey branches are related to your Gloucester lot?

"First found in Ayrshire where they were seated from ancient times, some say before the 12th century" for mine. Family all still live there! Another family name was so unusual it didn't feature.
Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!
