    Thank you :j
  • For all those who could not find their family coat of arms I have a suggestion. Why not make one up for yourself? It's likely it will be just as authentic and valid as anything you will find on this or any similar site.

Sad to say that OH's surname details were wrong - too simplistic + ignored the Northern English roots. Claimed related to 'Turnbull' - NO!

Won't even start on what was wrong about my maiden name!

We do have unusual names and have researched them carefully.

    Naff products overpriced.

Plus howcome my the crest of arms for my maiden surname and my married surname are almost identical? Absolute rubbish. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY

Sorry to spoil the party, there is no such thing as family coat of arms in UK

A coat of arms is granted to a person, not a family

    quote & more

"Q. Do coats of arms belong to surnames?

    A. No. There is no such thing as a 'coat of arms for a surname'. Many people of the same surname will often be entitled to completely different coats of arms, and many of that surname will be entitled to no coat of arms. Coats of arms belong to individuals. For any person to have a right to a coat of arms they must either have had it granted to them or be descended in the legitimate male line from a person to whom arms were granted or confirmed in the past."

    All true.

I have done some family history, and have examples of three coats of arms "associated" with my surname.

Which, if any, I am entitled to I have never found out, but this site shows only one of the three. In fact, I am not even sure that they have the heraldry 100% correct anyway.

It is a wee bit suspicious that all of the Coats of Arms/Crests are basically the same. I put in my own surname, that of my wife's maiden name, my mother's maiden name and also Smith, and the only thing which changes is the image in the box. So I'm not too sure really . . .

 I've since tried a couple of other sites, and they seem to be showing or describing the same COA. So maybe they're better than I think they are - even if they are American (!) LOL!!

I think there is more interest from those who live in the US as they are interested in their British origin, thats probably why you are more likely to find them on an American site

It showed the Crest of my Sept of my Scottish clan correctly, but it's not a Coat of Arms as they said. And it listed septs, we are a sept of a bigger clan.
