If you have Home Insurance, check to see if you have Legal Expenses cover. If you do, you can call the Legal Helpline provided by your Insurer for professional legal support with this.

I'm with the other commenters. You did the right thing is exercising your short-term right to reject.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

Is it just me or do their cars look cheap compared to the market rate.

I think you have a right to reject , getting them to play ball is another matter.

But thankfully the OP has S75 protection, so the seller playing ball may ultimately be immaterial. The key for S75 may be getting past the first line "computer says no" customer service agents and convincing the CC company regarding the OP's CRA2015 rights to reject for a full refund.

There are two factors here that may work in the OP's favour.
First, assuming I identified the correct business, The Trade Centre Group PLC are large enough and have been trading since 2003 so won't simply fold as soon as they receive a claim.
Second, if the Dealer fails in their obligations, the OP appears to have S75 protection potentially available as an alternative route to seek remedy.

I agree with the others, those lights are classed as a major fault, you are in your rights to reject it for a full refund.
Well done for taking the photo.

Is a solicitor's letter the best way to take the matter further (S75, CRA2015 rights etc)?

Trade Centre's customer services are not interested in talking to us.

You don't need a solicitor's letter. When opening a S75 give a statement and supply the photo as proof of major fault.
The credit card company are equally liable as the seller, so don't let them palm you off saying you have to go back to dealer.

I think start the s75 claim and let the credit card  company do the donkey work

'I have rejected the car under CRA as it had a proven fault and I want a refund.'

In this case it's a full refund. If you had driven it around for a couple of weeks there could be a mileage adjustment, but you didn't get very far

  • A quick guess would be is that the lemon has done around 150,000 miles, based on the purchase price of £7.500. I would suggest the engine light is due to a cam belt due to be changed. Hence probably no fault with the engine apart from ....
