New cash ISA - verify ID without smartphone

Are there any good cash ISAs that don't need a smartphone or branch visit to verify ID please? Asking for elderly mother in law.

Who does your MiL bank with? Might have a suitable product and might not need new ID for existing customer.

You haven't said what type of cash ISA you're looking for, but I would have a look at the best-buy tables on the Moneyfactscompare site.

Here are links for their Easy Access cash ISA and Fixed Rate Cash ISA tables. Always make sure that the tables are sorted by 'Rate' as the default option ('Provider links first') lists advertisers at the top.

If she doesn't have a smartphone, you'll need to avoid any that are mobile-only (only have the phone icon) but a better way to do it will be to filter according to the types of banking she'll be happy with (eg. online/branch/phone) by doing a 'Full search'.

If she doesn't want the hassle of visiting a branch, then applying and managing online will get the better (non app-only) rates.

    Eg.
Best 1 year fixed rate : Close Brothers 1 Year Fixed Rate @ 4.55%
Best easy access with limited withdrawals : Principality Online Bonus 5 @ 4.70%
Best unlimited easy access : Charter Easy Access (Issue 55) @ 4.57%

Note that there are some banks who still require you to use an app for logging in to online banking (eg. Cynergy and Oxbury) even though they're not strictly 'app-only', so you'll need to avoid those. Most online banking sites will require the customer to at least have a basic mobile phone in order to receive security codes by text for logging in.

The other thing to bear in mind is that all online ISA providers will require her to pass an online ID check if she's a new customer and failing that will either result in a refusal or the requirement to post off some forms of ID verification (bills, banks statements etc)

If she doesn't have a smartphone and doesn't want to visit a branch or open/manage the ISA online (so use post and/or phone only), then her options will be much more limited and the rates will generally be lower, unfortunately.
