Hi all,

I recently swapped my tariff (start of Jan) and all documents refer to April price rise being RPI + 3.9%.

However I’ve just had an email saying my airtime plan will go up by £1.80a month from April.

Surely this isn’t right…the contract is clear!

    Ofcom changed the legislation

The O2 increase is why I moved away from them prior to the new £1.80 extra on my bill.

Things that are differerent: draw & drawer, brought & bought, loose & lose, dose & does, payed & paid

No I understand the rules were changed.

But that was for contracts taken out with the new terms.

The old terms should still apply to existing contracts.

My contract states RPI+ but o2 are now saying it’s flat rate…that’s not what was agreed to!

"From 17 January 2025, Ofcom has banned providers from including inflation-linked price increases in their new contracts. "

If you joined before that date you should be on xPI+3.9%.

How much are you paying and what percentage does £1.80 equate to exactly?

    It amounts to a 9% rise (£19.99 currently) for 1 contract…

and an 18% rise (£9.99 currently) on a second line.

Doesn't matter if you are rpi+3.9% you will be moved over to the new terms

They will blame it on OFCOM

This can’t be right. Purchase over the phone with their call centre and they emphasise the rpi increase and the contract paperwork says it as well…I’ve had nothing from them to say they were changing terms and conditions…
  • I got an email in November teling me of their plans.

"Following new regulation from Ofcom we are changing the way we do annual price rises, to provide more clarity and certainty for all customers. We’ll present any changes to your bill in precise pounds and pence, rather than using percentages or inflation measures.

With this in mind, we want to let you know that from April 2025, the cost of your airtime plan will increase by £1.80 a month."

The clarity for me equated to an over 20% rise so when I passed my minimum term I moved to Lebara on one of the MSE deals (42 pence per month for 50GB of data)

If you can get a copy of the call then you could argue you have been mis-sold.

The email says that "because of these changes, you have the right to end your airtime plan in the next 30 days".

They recognise that the increase is not as per the contract and therefore you have the right to cancel. For me the increase is 20% and it applies to five contracts so I will be cancelling.
