I was meant to travel from Glasgow to Alicante on Friday but we were in a red alert area. Buses and trains off and trees fell blocking roads. Ryanair did not cancel my flight and took off 4hrs 52 mins late. I followed the advice not to travel unless necessary. Where do I stand?

Did you try to contact RyanAir at the time to see what they had to say?

Then, this would be a matter for your travel insurance, rather than a matter for the airline to resolve.
In any event, if it was for the airline, no compensation would be due as the airline would (correctly, it seems) blame exceptional circumstances outside their control.

I would have thought it was necessary to travel, you had a flight to catch.  Ryanair did not cancel any of their flights from Glasgow,

Similar situations happened when covid was with us.  Government advice (or in your case the Met Office I think), make these statements but don’t support any financial consequences.

Apart from your travel insurer, I’m not sure who you think might refund the flight cost.  It won’t be Ryanair. Sounds like they offered and operated the flight.

Unless your travel insurance includes trip disruption due to this type of thing (usually an extra cost) then I’d say you’ll just have to write it off to experience unfortunately.

Next time, whilst I appreciate you thought you were doing the right thing, I’d travel. You had a booked flight so I’d deem that as necessary.

I was due to fly on Ryanair's 8.15am flight from Glasgow to Krakow. The incoming flight from Krakow couldn't land and was then diverted to Manchester. The Glasgow flight was delayed to 10.30, 11.15, 12.30 then finally 1.30pm - despite the red alert, before they finally cancelled as they couldn't get the plane up from Manchester. We were the only people in the airport that morning/afternoon, before flights resumed that evening.

    Any thoughts on claiming compensation?

the weather was not in the control of the airline so no compensation due
as your flight was cancelled then a refund is due...assuming you did not travel
