Trust Pilot - can they be trusted?

No, subscription is something that we won't consider. Following some very serious allegations, involving suicide, we managed to get TP to remove some highly contentious "reviews" but it took time and effort.
There is little to recommend a out this mob but they appear to offer a safe place for the disgruntled to run riot with fabricated reviews which carry an agenda.
Sorry I am unable to provide detail.

I think social proof on the internet is dying anyway, Trustpilot is no exception.
One thing that distorts reviews is companies asking for a review after delivery, this can result in a lot of reviews about how the nice man set it up etc. , but little on what happens when things go wrong. 4Com (the business telecoms supplier) is like this.
for heaven's sake don't get into a long business telephone contract

Suspect you are right.
Imagine an AI agent given free rein to big up (or down) a particular company. Couple of datacentres the size of Wales humming away to destroy your company's credibility by leaving negative reviews/feedback wherever it can will make a nasty mess to tidy up.
