A friend is thinking of ditching Virgin in favour of a Firestick because it has the one station he is interested in. He saw the quality on my Firestick and was pretty impressed. I’m assuming his internet is with Viirgin. Will they supply the internet without the package he has now.  I’ll test it with one of mine during the week

The aerial on his house has long since disappeared but Firesticks don’t need an aerial. Correct

I have that combination of VM broadband + Amazon Firestick, and it works without any issues.

However, I've never had any VM TV packages, and there have been historic accounts of VM not offering a viable downgrade from TV to BB-only at a fair price.   But maybe that's a thing of the past?

Firesticks and other streaming devices get content via the internet and don't need a TV aerial.

Im Currently with Virgin Media for BroadBand, and I have the TV Stream which was a one off £10 payment. Dont need a TV aerial. And live TV is Actually live like having a TV aerials. Got 3 months left on. BB contract. and service has been pretty poor.. I have 350mb speed and lots of connected smart devices (4 daughters) all got several devices, plus all my cctv etc so I need speed..

situation is Brsk has finally been installed in my street and offering me upto 1000mb for £10 a month less and will buy my 3 months remaining contract out..

unfortunately the VM stream box only works with VM BB, and  I don’t want to install a aerial.

I have a few Firestick Lites around and yes I can get all catchup apps, Netflix, Disney etc but my partner likes to watch live to as it’s aired so to speak?

I could only see a premium app that provides live streaming on the firestick.

Are there any other devices like Roku that could offer the same experience?

  • Apple TV 4k box might be worth considering. The TV launcher app at a one off cost of around £4.99 has an EPG and links to the streaming app channel you select just like normal TV and you can scroll back 7 days to select a catchup option.
Look on Youtube,  there are some very positive reviews of it.
