In general? No. You need to switch suppliers to get the promotional rate.If you check the T&C it often says something like "you can't have been a customer of ours on the previous 12 months".

TBH , most companies will negotiate to keep customers, so using that company’s own ‘new customer’ price is a good starting point for negotiating, the retention offer may not quite as good , but may be close enough to recommit…obviously if what retentions offer isn’t good enough you can still switch to someone else , but as stated you can’t simply sign as a new customer because you are not a new customer, some people achieve the same result though , if it’s a couple ( Mr and Mrs for example ) the spouse signs up as the new customer, effectively taking over the existing service , this may have some downtime though and if telephony is involved a different telephone number is allocated1

We have had to do this many times, between my partners old house and our new one, only Virgin supply full fibre so we had no choice. You ring up, say you can't afford their new price. They may offer you a slower speed at a lower rate but it will probbaly still be higher than what you paid as a new customer in the first 12 months. E.g we were on £36/month, then contract ended and they wanted to charge us £69/month. We managed to get it down to £49/month and on a lower speed but it was still fast enough to be useable.Consider what services you actually need, and whether you're paying for more than you need e.g. do you need a landline, do you need full fibre or will standard broadband be enough. Do you need up to 56mb/sec or will 14mb/sec be enough? If you don't need full fibre broadband (ultrafast) then you have a lot more options in terms of choosing other companies. You choose the next cheapest company on the comparison site and go with them.Just a warning when you cancel, they will then try to offer you a better deal. You may or may not have already got a deal somewhere else. If you don't mind the hassle then you can swap back and forth if your original supplier matches or beats your new price, but it's a right hassle and best avoided1
