Old Trust House Forte pension

How to claim Trust House Forte pension — MoneySavingExpert Forum
I am now 73, worked for Trust House Hotels (later became Trust House Forte) when I was 18 for about four years.  I had completely forgotten about this pension, now searching for it.  One of the threads here says Compass Group probably have it.  I have phoned Compass Group, not very helpful, but confirmed they don't have my pension.  I have no idea what to do now to move forward.  Any help/advice please?

Pre 1975 it is unlikely you retained any pension rights. Prior to 1978 you would have needed to be 26 with 5 years service on leaving to be entitled to any pension.  Things were very different back then

I'm afraid the answer is almost certainly stop looking because there's nothing to find.

Subject to the rules of the pension scheme in question:

    • if you left before 6 April 1975, you didn't qualify for a deferred pension
    • If you left prior to 6 April 1988, even if you belonged to the company's pension scheme, you needed at least five years of pension scheme membership to qualify for a 'deferred' pension (and leavers prior to 1 January 1986 had to be at least 25 years of age - if I've got my arithmetic right you'd fall into this category, so wouldn't be old enough to qualify even if you had five years of pension scheme membership).
Members of contributory pension schemes who didn't qualify for a deferred pension would have had a refund of their personal contributions (minus tax and where appropriate NI), usually included in their final paypacket.
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!
