Adverse Possession

Hi guys
Just looking for a bit of advice.
I purchased my property back in 2001 |(terraced house) and at the time, the rear of the property had an area of land set back which was overgrown with bushes and trees. This land is not part of my deeds.
Since around 2002, I maintained the land by erecting a fence, putting a padlocked gate and made it in a usable garden. I know I've met the criteria of applying adverse possession but is it simple to do?
As far as I can see the land is unregistered and I know in the past, an old neighbour who is no longer with us, was successful is gaining adverse possession so I know its doable. Is there a simple way in completing the forms, rather than instructing a solicitor which are quoting around £2k plus. From my initial google searches I can see I need to complete a ADV1, ST1 and possibly a FR1. I've tried to locate the costs but it doesn't appear to be clear. Any ideas?
Has anyone got any hints and tips. I'm quite good at form filling so I'm hoping this isn't mission impossible.
Thanks in advance.

If you haven't checked if the land is registered then would suggest that you do - Get information about property and land: Search the index map - GOV.UK
Whilst you don't have to use a conveyancer we would always recommend that you do. You need to satisfy the legal requirements before tackling the registration ones and a legal rep can assist/do that for you
The low value of the land (less than £80k) would attract a Scale 1 fee (£40) plus an inspection fee of £90 to cover the required survey/site visit by Ordnance Survey
“Official Company Representative
I am the official company representative of Land Registry. MSE has given permission for me to post in response to queries about the company, so that I can help solve issues. You can see my name on the companies with permission to post list. I am not allowed to tout for business at all.
