Wren Kitchens refund
wrongfulrefund2025
Me and partner was buying a kitchen from wren but obviously cancelled it after a break up, it was in my partners name as contact and she paid a deposit of £1500 but then I made a payment of £1000 and £1500 and that’s all that was paid.
Partner cancelled the kitchen and asked for the money back. They have paid into my bank £1000 and given partner £2140 in cheques. Am I right in thinking that partner should have lost the deposit and the money been returned should all go back on the card holder who paid ?
Any help on this?

Why have they paid your partner in cheques? Is that how she paid the £1500 deposit?
So you (both) have paid a total of £4000 and have received a refund of £3140? I assume the additional £860 covers their costs and any work that may have been started?
Have you asked them to refund the additional £1500 you paid via that bank account?
Ultimately, they're refunding the account holder, so you might have to take this up with your ex if you want more money returned to you.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
As in her contact details, or do you mean the contract is in her name only?wrongfulrefund2025 said:Me and partner was buying a kitchen from wren but obviously cancelled it after a break up, it was in my partners name as contact and she paid a deposit of £1500 but then I made a payment of £1000 and £1500 and that’s all that was paid.Partner cancelled the kitchen and asked for the money back. Contact and contract I believe, I may be wrong in that. But should it not still go onto the payment card ? As £1000 did go to me, just not the rest of what I paid.0

So in total,
PAYMENTS: You £2500, Partner £1500, Total £4000
REFUNDS: You £1000, Partner £2140, Total £3140
NET: You -£1500, Partner +£740, Total £-860
You both paid for the kitchen for joint use, so I don't think its inherently fair to distinguish that one lost the deposit while you get everything or possibly more than you put in (if you get all of the payments). Equally unfair for partner to profit from this and you lose more than you put in.
The fair thing would be to split the £860 loss either 50/50 or according to your contributions.
Re how to make that happen, I'd try both tracks - ask partner to send over part of the refund and ask the company to refund your card payment.0 -
I have no idea on the Cheques, she paid via bank card which was the deposit, then I made the further payments from my account, they was no work involved as we didn’t go through with kitchen due to a break up, she has been down and cancelled then I received a payment.pinkshoes said:Why have they paid your partner in cheques? legally no - it can be done in any way the merchant wants - they chose cheques issued to the person in whose name the contract was held.0

But there must have been some work done in order for them to give you a price. Did they measure up or do a plan?wrongfulrefund2025 said:

I think that's the first thing you need to establish. If it is all in her name then any negotiation/dispute is between you and her.wrongfulrefund2025 said:Contact and contract I believe, I may be wrong in that. But should it not still go onto the payment card ? That's not what the Consumer Rights Act says.Olinda99 said:legally no - it can be done in any way the merchant wants...
s20(16) says the trader must give the refund using the same means of payment as the consumer used, unless the consumer expressly agrees otherwise.1 -
Thank you for your comment and the maths 👍. I’m asking a question as to if this is legally right ? The kitchen hadn’t been installed it was cancelled yes they measured up which understandably the deposit is lost. I’m trying to determine if money should be paid for back to the cards which was used. Obviously after a break up and kitchen cancellation I want to know if wren have dealt with this in the correct way ?saajan_12 said:So in total,
