Porting your number query?

Options
Hi All,

I'm coming up to the end of my Talkmobile contract in April, but my phone is in dire need of upgrading. I have a friend who can get me a great deal with another provider, but I don't wish to incur any early departure fees. Is there a time limit on porting your old number over to a new provider? To clarify, i'm happy to pay both bills for two months if required, keep my old number for those two months and then request my pac code for the new provider. Does anyone know if there are any time restrictions on Tesco Mobile for porting your number onto a new contract with them?

Your PAC code is valid for 30 days from when you request it.

Is the problem that your friend's great deal must be taken in the near future? Give us some details, we might be able to suggest other options. You will have to pay the money owing on your contract's minimum term, either by taking it to term or paying it off in early termination fees.

Obviously the most economic way of doing this would be to delay taking your new contract until the existing Talk Mobile contract is about to expire.

There's no time limit on using a PAC to transfer a number, you can do it immediately when the new contract starts or any time thereafter.

Thanks. It's more to do with my old phone needing to be changed asap, but I can keep limping along for a couple of months if necessary.

One way to shortcut to a new phone (apart from just buying a new phone) might be to upgrade with Talkmobile, although I've no knowledge of how competitive or comprehensive their deals might be.

The deal I can get through my friend can't be beaten and TM's upgrades aren't as good either. It's looking likely i'll be going with a new contract, as it'll cost me £14 - £21 to run both before switching over.
