Think you may have posted on the wrong thread as he hasn’t picked the car up yet.
  • @michaels If you have any concerns please contact our customer service department. This may have been a geniune attempt from the rental provider to save time and get your agreement ready on arrival.

Avis would never text me on WhatsApp asking for photos of my driving licence and passport.
You say that but I seem to have recieved one from Avis at Sharm El Sheikh Airport, exactly as described by the OP except they have not sent me a copy of my voucher, just quoted my booking ref and the date+time of the booking.  This os 2 days ahead of picking the car up.

Well, I say its from avis.  They SAY they're from Avis.  I don't trust themand am now having to sit ina queue to talk to Avis.  If it turns out to be genuine, I'll be telling them this is unprofessional rubbish and they shouldn't be operating like this.

Some parts of the world do operate heavily on Whatsapp. It took some getting used to on a long trip I had, but for everything from booking tours to hotels, professional websites routinely had a live chat being a link to whatsapp web and the contact us being handled via whatsapp.

I suppose its not really any less secure than email, but its just different norms.
