Council Wheelie Bin damaged my car

    It was very windy, you knew bins were left out on the pavements normally.  You must be aware that wheelie bins are very easily blown about in windy conditions.

    What precautions did you take to avoid a potential  accident? 

    You could have avoided that street

    You could have driven slower  to allow you to avoid flying wheelie bins

    It isn’t always somebody else’s fault.

    Do not drive until repaired (dangerous defects):
    • Offside Rear Tyre has a bulge, caused by separation or partial failure of its structure (5.2.3 (d) (ii))
    • Offside Front Tyre has ply or cords exposed (5.2.3 (d) (ii))
    • Nearside Rear Tyre has ply or cords exposed (5.2.3 (d) (ii))
    • Front Brake disc in such a condition that it is seriously weakened BOTH FRONT BRAKE DISCS VERY BAD (1.1.14 (a) (ii))
    • Rear Brake disc in such a condition that it is seriously weakened BOTH REAR BRAKE DISCS VERY BAD (1.1.14 (a) (ii))
    Repair immediately (major defects):
    • Tyre pressure monitoring system malfunctioning or obviously inoperative (5.2.3 (h))
    • Parking brake efficiency below requirements (1.4.2 (a) (i))
    Monitor and repair if necessary (advisories):
    • Nearside Front Tyre slightly damaged/cracking or perishing (5.2.3 (d) (ii))
    • Nearside Front Tyre worn close to legal limit/worn on edge @ limit (5.2.3 (e))
    • Nearside Front Inner Road wheel slightly distorted (5.2.2 (c) (i))
    • FRONT TYRE SIZE 225 40 R19 93Y REAR TYRE SIZE 255 35 R19 99Y

    In fairness, the car was listed for sale in April 2023 and new V5 issued in May 2023, so this was before current ownership and it appears to have all been sorted out.

    Incidentally, £6,000.00 seems a bit steep for the repair bill.  What was damaged, other than the wheelie-bin's feelings?
