Business Rates / Council Tax

I bought a property in Edinburgh in Sept 2022 for Short Term Let use (Air BnB etc).
I’ve been paying council tax at the property since this date but have since learnt that other business owners in the complex pay business rates (with small business relief) so have since requested to switch to this.
Once this is approved and backdated to the date I purchased the property, can I request a refund on the council tax payment?

The assessor is unable to add your property to the valuation list earlier than 01 04 of the current valuation year, so they can’t backdate it to 2022. When Edinburgh council delete it from the council tax list it will produce a credit that needs to be refunded before the same property can be added to the ndr roll, the different departments from Edinburgh council will get in touch once the assessor has made their decision in relation to the rateable value and the date and notified both them and you, there is often a long delay, but hopefully it will be before 31 03, so you don’t lose another year
