Leaving ID mobile without an exit charge
I’m on a twelve-month £8 sim only contract with ID mobile that’s coming to an end on 24/02. Inspired by Martin’s podcast, I requested a PAC code today (26/01). It arrived with the warning if I used it now the total cost of my final bill would £15.63.
In other words, they would charge me for the full current month up to 24/02, plus most of the next...
So if I want to reduce the cost of switching should I request a PAC on the day my contacts renews (the 24th?) and then wait for close to a month to request the switch?
It feels to me that ID mobile is making leaving purposely costly and confusing...
Would appreciate a step by step guide!

A pac code is valid for a month - if you don't use it it simply expires
all you need to do is use it after your contract with ID Mobile expires ie after the 24th
If you need to give notice to end your contract eg 30 days then you need to give ID Mobile that notice now - requesting a pac code is not giving notice you need to do that separately0 -
You are always on the hook for the full amount of the minimum term of your contract, what using a PAC does is negate the need to give a month notice (which would still be required if you were just cancelling your contract).
In other words you can give your PAC code (it's good for 30 days) to your new supplier with (say) a week to go on your minimum term and the service will be moved and you will owe Id for the few days until 24/02. No need to serve notice.
Suspect that the amount you have been quoted when the PAC was obtained is for the current month's bill plus next month until 24/02.
Don't cancel any DD you have with Id, it will take at least one more billing cycle after transfer to sort out the payments.2 -

yes it will you are correct but that does not negate the need to give notice if your contract requires notice otherewise yes using the pac will terminate immediately but you will have eg a 30 day bill to pay.0

From the OFCOM website
https://www.ofcom.org.uk/phones-and-broadband/switching-provider/switching-mobile-phone-provider/
"Ofcom has banned mobile providers from charging for notice periods that run after the switch date."
Note this is just notice periods, not any outstanding charges due under the contract for ending/switching early.2
