If a CCC stated there is a direct debit set up and bank say there isn't and payment isn't taken  how do you apportion fault?

which "bank" has said there isn't?  Your bank?  Would you have known in time to make a payment?

I assume that the CCC has charged you a fee for the DD not working.  Do you have any proof that a) they said the DD was in place and b) that you had sufficient funds?  If so I'd say it's the CCC to blame.

If on the other hand you asked your bank to confirm a DD was in place 2 days before you expected it to hit your account and you did nothing then you might need to take some blame.  Problem is you might not have known for sure until the actual day the money should leave your account.

Sorry I should have said it's a hypothetical question ATM.
My DD is due out on the 7th HSBC states DD set up Nationwide states it's not. I plan to check on the 5th and if not taken make a debit card payment. But I should not have to do this.

Edit. corrected DD date and added a not.

I think I'd be sorting out sooner than the payment date why/what  may have gone wrong and making sure it is corrected.

Whenever I've set up a new direct debit on my Nationwide current account the name of the new payee has appeared very quickly, usually the next banking day.

It's also clear the night before that the new payee will be taking payment on the due date.

You have 11days (7 banking days) to follow this up and ensure a direct debit is correctly set up.

Presume there's a 'not' missing there?

Have Nationwide actually explicitly stated that there's no DD mandate or is it just not showing within app/online banking yet?  Some institutions only show them after the first payment has been claimed....

When was it set up with CC (HSBC) as may take a while to show at Nationwide end.

The HSBC is in the dark ages with setting up a DD (if it's another bank)  you need to fill out a pdf form  and it's actioned that way, I did that on 11th Jan.
It's hard to sort out when HSBC are telling me it's set up.

    The plot thickens.
Not been any sign of the DD with the Nationwide  and no money has been taken from my account.
HSBC states they received the DD from Nationwide today (via message this afternoon) and this evening it  now shows up on my CC transactions as "Direct Debit Payment - Thank You"

Very odd. Did you find out what happened? Did they have the right account details for your nationwide account?
