Neighbours roofing problem

Would you tell a neighbour (across the road) - that they have slipped tiles on their roof ?
Even if they wake you up regularly in the middle of the night with antisocial behaviour (car engines left running for way too long and noisy kids screaming at all hours)
The roof angle is such that they could only see it from our side of the road
And, yes, they DO own the property.
It's been like it for months now
That is what I don't know what to do about ?

If I was half as smart as I think I am - I'd be twice as smart as I REALLY am.

Their roof, their problem. A wet patch on the ceiling should warn them there is an issue that needs attention.
I've got a few sociable neighbours and we help each other out from time to time - Have informed one that he has a cracked tile when I noticed it.
Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.

We have some friendly neighbours too - but this family - no !
Thanks - I will expect some roof repairers in a few months....

Could be a useful tool in improving relations........ or it may not. It's worth a try I think.

I could see a house in the neighbouring street had left their attic windows open on a day when it was pouring with rain. I think they were somewhat surprised when I knocked on their door, holding an umbrella.

Could also see a slipped ridge tile on a different house in a different neighbouring road. Went round and tried knocking on their door but there was no reply, and they had a somewhat offputting notice on their letterbox about cold callers, so I didn't bother trying again. Maybe a year later the tile got sorted.

I've also told the pub behind us about their blocked washing machine overflow which was backing up against their wall and potentially causing damp. This despite them not being particularly nice neighbours.

I suppose it's just my nature to try and be helpful.

I would tell them. Just seems the right thing to do.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

If the overriding purpose is to be helpful, you could just pop a note through their 'box.

If you also wish to wind them up, add, "Guess who?! I can seeeee yooooo."

Just put a note through their door if you don't want to speak to them.  It is the right thing to do.

    People can be strange.

Bringing up an issue with someone, that's going to cost them money, can lead to you being seen as the bad guy.

Knowing they have a problem (if they then do nothing) can also make them liable if further damage causes injury or damage to a third party.

Some people are happier with their head in the sand!

So tell them, but don't assume they'll be happy about it.

  • From how you describe your neighbours, I wouldn't get involved.
