broadband in my new flat

The BT phone line in my new flat is already up and running, and the 17070 line test works. Coo - that's efficient! I only phoned them this morning.
I now want broadband in the flat, and am wondering whether I'll need an engineer install or not.
There are two phone extensions in the flat - and they both work. They are both wired into a little brown oblong-shaped box that's nailed to the wall in the meter cupboard. I guess this must be the linebox then - but it doesn't look like a linebox to me.
I haven't tried taking the cover off it yet - but I can't see anywhere that you're supposed to plug in a phone - except at the two extensions.
So I'm wondering - if I order wires-only ADSL, do you think it will work at either of the two extension sockets? Or am I going to have to plug my modem in at the meter cupboard? Am I likely to need an engineer install?
I haven't been able to carry my computer over there yet, so I don't even know if 56k will work. I don't want to order wires-only if there's a risk it might not work - unless it's leaps and bounds cheaper than engineer-install, in which case I might run the risk anyway.
Anyone got any advice? Thanks.

As long as you've got BT-type sockets there to plug into, you should just need a microfilter for each one. Of course this presupposes that your line is capable of ADSL.There are 10 types of people in the world, those that understand binary and those that don't
In many cases it helps if you say where you are - someone with local knowledge might be able to give local specifics rather than general advice0
