I moved my broadband from talktalk to vodafone as talktalk stopped offering 1571 answering service and also vodafone package is £5 a month cheaper. now I discover vodafone also does not offer the 1571 service. so is 1571 a thing of the past now? do I need to venture out to my local argos ans see what super deals there are on phones and answering machines etc?.

When I switched supplier back in 2015 (I've just checked and didn't realise it was that long ago!) the new service only offered 1571 as an added-cost option. I think it was a couple of quid a month.I balked at paying out for a service and instead bought a DECT phone pair with answering built-in. It was cheaper than a year's 1571. They're still serving me well.N. Hampshire, he/him. Octopus Intelligent Go elec & Tracker gas / Vodafone BB / iD mobile. Ripple Kirk Hill member.

Not true , 1571 ( an answering service ) is available on BTDV , regardless of that being FTTP or FTTC , it’s also free0

Well I seem to got to the bottom of this now. on the vodafone website there is a phone number for upgrades and plan changes. so I called it and just like the old days, phone was answered by a human being.
Apparently 1571 was fine with the older copper cabling. but not any good with fibre, as the two are not compatible. so as I've opted for vodafones full fibre plan, if I want a answerphone it does indeed mean a trip to argos. thats life I guess.1 -
Vodafone’s lack of 1571 isn’t representative of every other ISP ….if you want to use VF for service and are willing to buy an answering machine fine , but it doesn’t prove that 1571 type services are not available from others , and that’s over copper , hybrid and full fibre , if VF can’t offer it , that’s down to the VF network , other networks of all types do provide a network answering service0

When I went with full fibre from EE they told me that my DECT answerphone wouldn't work any more so I'd have to use 1571. Fortunately they were wrong and my answerphone works just fine.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0
