So my DW has an iPhone and we want to save pics from it onto a memory stick.
Have followed instructions but cannot see how to do it.
We get as far as 4 but cannot see the stick anywhere to tap!
The stick is new and shows on my computer.
"
  1. Connect your iPhone to the storage device using the Lightning or USB-C connector, or connect the device directly to your iPhone.

  2. Go to the Photos app  on your iPhone.

  3. Select the photos and videos you want to export.

  4. Tap the Share buttonthen tap Export Unmodified Original.

  5. Tap your storage device (below Locations), then tap Save."

I use a PC - log into iCloud download onto the PC, then save to the memory stick.

Possible the OP doesn't save photos to the iCloud.  If they did they could download them directly to the stick from iCloud.

Have you formatted the stick for use on the iPhone?

Obviously no need if you download directly.

Well I must be really thick as nothing seems to work as per instructions!  Plugged the stick into a Macbook to format it.  This is instruction 2...
    1. Open Disk Utility. You can find it in Applications > Utilities.    No it isn't!       So I did a search and opened disk utilities and the stick is already FAT32 formatted.  So should work!
Back to my old iPhone and played around.  I have to go to export unmodified original and then 'Browse' to get the stick name to appear!
Why don't any of the instructions tell us that?

Now to get it working on DW's iphone.

  • If the photos are backed up to iCloud why not download them from there?

No need to involve your phone.

Disk Utility is in my Applications folder.

Simply go to iCloud.com, log in and then click on Photos.

As I said this is for my wife,  when she logs into her icloud and clicks onto the pics she can then download but that downloads onto her phone, not to the stick. There is no option to download to the stick.
