Cleaning knackered non stick oven trays

So those with stainless steel roasting trays and whatever - how do you keep those clean? I've just looked into them and they're fairly expensive - say 30 quid for a roasting tin. Fine if it lasts.. So roast potatoes I'd always out straight on to a tray, usually with oil on the tray first heating up in the oven... So those trays clean up alright not being non stick?0

I normally stick them in the dishwasher and they come out as good as new. The ones we use most often I actually chose the size because I knew it would fit in there easily. If there's something burnt on that the dishwasher won't shift then one of those stainless steel scourers will always get it off - this kind of thing: Scotch-Brite Stainless Steel Scourer, 12 Pieces - Rust Resistant Spiral Metal Scourer, Powerful and Effective Clean Scrubbing pad : Amazon.co.uk: GroceryChilliBob said:So those with stainless steel roasting trays and whatever - how do you keep those clean? Same here, we have a baking tray from Nisbets which is apparently aluminium, but takes some abuse!casper_gutman said:

They come in various sizes.0 -
Soak them in your bath with a couple of dishwasher tablets in VERY HOT water. Depending on the level of grime you may need to do this twice.
After you've done that you should be able to take it to the sink/dishwasher and get them looking sparkly very easily. I often do this with the oven/grill shelves and it does a great job.0 -
Sorry yes it is Mr Muscle , i bought a couple of cans that were heavily reduced at our local Sainsburys ,really works BUT do not get it on your skin ,nears your eyes or breath in the fumes ,as i said i would do them outside and rinse off with water ,wash in the sink and then they are safe to use for food.ChilliBob said:Orange can stuff I'm getting delivered is Mr Muscle, which I believe stinks, and you shouldn't get *anywhere* near your skin or eyes.. Sounds like Nitromors for our oven!0 -
Forgot to say you can do your whole oven with that stuff ,open the oven door ,remove all the racks ,spray it quickly and shut the door asap ,leave an hour and clean with warm water and a cloth ,please wear gloves ,chuck the cloth away when finished.0

If you do decide to replace some or all of your trays another place that often has some very good value ones is Dunelm, their Essentials range is worth a look. I've also noticed that M&S have started stocking some baking trays recently and some of those are quite keenly priced as well.
I forgot to say that any non-stick coating will only last for a few years anyway and given that some coatings emit various nasty substances at a high heat you might prefer to replace them with steel, enamel or pyrex all of which are scrubbable.0 -
I highly recommend these:

They are completely non stick, and go in the dishwasher. A bit more expensive but virtually indestructible0 -
We have the same trays and they are great and easy to clean , the top non stick coating never wears BUT the bottom of the trays are not as good and ours show loads of wearing due to them being slid into and out of the oven.spo2 said:I highly recommend these:

Yeah, mine has arrived, have to say the directions and warnings are a bit scary! Feels like I need a breaking bad hazmat suit on! Also not sure how I can use it not on the seals but clean it off - I guess perhaps when it's diluted it's fine.diveunderthebonnet said:Forgot to say you can do your whole oven with that stuff ,open the oven door ,remove all the racks ,spray it quickly and shut the door asap ,leave an hour and clean with warm water and a cloth ,please wear gloves ,chuck the cloth away when finished.
As for the trays, I've done the best I can, I think I'll slowly trash them in exchange for an upgrade or two!0
