And a 5 year old smart TV is probably well past it in terms of software updates
Thanks, but I'm just going to let him watch it on my laptop - I don't have the energy to wressle with it any more.
No it doesn't - it's a Macbook and it has two Thunderbolt 3/USB 4 ports.
Buy a Thunderbolt to HDMI cable.

Thank you. The first one would be ideal as it's just one cable that would join the laptop to the TV but it's for USB C and my laptop (a 2024 Macbook) has a UAB 4 port and I don't think a USB C plug would fit. The other things are also USB C and in any event, wouldn't they require further cables?

Hubs, if they are something that you would consider anyway. Most people have a spare HDMI lead somewhere around the house. In that case buying an extra lead wouldn't be necessary.
For example, you may have USB-A storage drives that you cannot plug into your Mac without some form of adapter. The hub can act as that adapter whilst at the same time allowing you to connect an HDMI lead to the TV. Only needing one of your ports.1 -

Ok thank you; I will buy the lead. I have so many chargers, leads etc. I might have one but I think just having one cable that joins the two things together would be the simplest thing.

Check if the NT app for Google TV can be installed on your Sony Bravia TV, it may be more performant than using the TV's web browser - National Theatre at Home – Apps on Google Play1

The cable came this morning and I connected the TV to my laptop and the screen mirroring works so thank you for that suggestion. The only, fairly minor, issue is that I can't get the sound to come from the TV, only the laptop. The sound quality is better on the TV and also you can tell that the vision and sound are sort of separated, which is a slight distraction. Is there any way I can get the sound to come from the TV do you know?Vitor said:Check if the NT app for Google TV can be installed on your Sony Bravia TV, it may be more performant than using the TV's web browser - National Theatre at Home – Apps on Google Play

The output is set to 'MacBook Air Speakers'. It doesn't give me an option to change it to anything else.
