Chip are one of those providers who don't give a second bite of the cherry IIRC, but OP's MIL seems to be a brand new customer. If not then previously having held an account would be a good explanation.
Brand new, but seems as though it's because she doesn't have the latest app version which she can't get because she's got an oldish phone
Makes sense. She could use a different device just to apply for the account.

I've been pondering this. How could a device give you access to using the app but prevent some accounts from appearing.? Surely any security requirements apply to all accounts.

The issue is not being able to receive an app update that includes a list of promotional offers, because the device doesn't meet the requirements of the newer app. Several providers have this mechanism of pushing out offers within app updates rather than have the app poll a server. Perhaps the application form needs to be coded into the app itself. Much the same as you'd need to upgrade software on your PC to use new features, but support may be dropped for old systems for performance reasons.
There have been many instances of such offers only appearing when you install the latest update.
It shouldn't affect the ability to use the account on an older version of the app after opening it (though there is an outside chance it might).

But she can't see the Easy Access account, which is what she wants. She's with Natwest and being paid 2.4% interest on her spare £60K savings.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

Maybe she should spend £200 of that £60k savings on a new phone then the problem goes away.

    Ok found a work around.
It's defo the old app that causes the problem. We have the app on my phone so just sign out of my account and as long as her phone is near to get the access code, sign into hers, then it all shows up and deposited £60K

We tried this, opened her account, deposited the money, went back to the old app still on her phone and that account doesn't show up.

Is it a good idea to use a phone which can’t support the current version of a banking app for banking? How recent is the operating system on her phone?
