Hard Landing Caused cancellation

Just wondering if there is any chance on this one.

Aer Lingus flight was cancelled to Belfast and we had to fly to Dublin next day.

Claim denied

This is because Flight EI 3659 on 22-DEC-2024 20:15 was cancelled as a result of BHD airport closed due to heavy landing. This was an extraordinary circumstance beyond the control of Emerald Airlines, the operating airline of your flight.

however. The plane that had the hard landing was their plane so it’s not beyond their control.

Worth pursuing?

Not sure there's anywhere to go with this.  The airport was closed after an aircraft accident which occurred during terrible weather.  It was quite a landing!

It was one of their own planes though so that’s not beyond their control. If it was another airline they would have a point. I don’t think I’ll get anywhere really either but nothing to lose by trying

As it was classified as an aircraft accident, then fortunately there will be an investigation by the Aircraft Accident Investigations Branch who will produce a report on the causes in due course.  The AAIB has sent a team of inspectors to Belfast City Airport - GOV.UK

I guess you could wait for that report, and if it blames the airline and crew you could try and continue your claim at that point.  I expect weather will be a significant contributory factor.

Pretty much confirming what I thought myself. The only thing was helpful is the eventually confirmed the cancellation reason for my travel insurance as all they would say was operational issues even though everyone knew why.  and travel insurance wouldn’t accept that had to get reason in writing from airline
