Transferring mobile number with the same hosting network

I'm planning to move my sim only contract from Vodafone to Asda mobile (which is hosted on the Vodafone network).  However, Vodafone have told me that I cannot take my existing number with me (via a PAC code), as I will still be on the Vodafone network.  Is this true, in which case I would need to move to EE, Three or O2 (or providers which they host)?  I absolutely do not want to risk losing my existing mobile number.  Thanks!!

Afaik No its not true you can move from Vodafone to Asda mobile its the same if you wanted to move to Lebara or talk mobile they run off of Vodafone.

Like i said Lebara run off of Vodafone and i have used a Pac code loads of times form Lebara to Vodafone and back. 
Most providers won't let you Pac say from Vodafone to Vodafone same with most thats trying to move to the same network they won't let you.....You can't pac Lebara to Lebara...Asda to Asda.

Agree with above, I moved Lebara (Voda) to Asda Mobile (Voda) and to Lebara again.

Thanks Both.  Just to be fully sure then...Vodafone to Vodafone itself can't be done.  But Vodafone to another provider (and vice versa) which uses the Vodafone network is ok.  So I can use a PAC code to keep my number.  If so, I'm not impressed with the false info from Vodafone.

Sorry just seen your post....Yes you can Pac your number to Asda from Vodafone.
