Mobile phone contract scam Vodafone

Hi, I wondered if this has happened to anyone else.
We were with Vodafone Broadband at home. I had a problem with a wi-fi signal booster not pairing with the booster. Asked for help on Vodafone community board and told an agent will contact me.
Agent phoned up and said I needed a new router and engineer to visit, said I needed to pay £9 security fee. Next day a mobile phone and sim card arrived! Day after a new mobile phone contract from Vodafone, which it says it cannot cancel as it was taken out through a 3rd party, supposedly Carphone Warehouse.

Did you post your contact details onto the Vodafone Community board?

Did the "agent" who contacted you have your address details or did you have to "confirm" them?

They needed your card details to charge a "security fee"? Have you checked for any further charges on your card?

Next stage may well be a call arranging to collect the phone "sent in error".

Is the phone a high-end iPhone or Samsung?

    See where this is going?

    you  got  scammed

did you  post  personal details on the forum  in question ?

although it does seem that there are  some problems with 'leaky' call centres   regardless of the location of the call centre
  • No I didn't post personal details on the Vodafone Community home forum.
So the scammer was able to obtain my phone no as he works as a 'third party' for Vodafone!

So agent scammer could access my mobile phone no and my address details.
My card company have been informed and the £9 fee has been cancelled.
Many calls from numbers know to be associated with scam mobile phone contracts asking me to put the 'package' inside an envelope from a DPD courier.
Phone is a Google Pixel 9 Pro XL

I have an email from Vodafone complaints dept saying they cannot cancel the phone contract!
I have a letter from Currys (Dixons/Carphone warehouse) saying only the mobile network, ie Vodafone, can cancel the contract.
    Excellent
