A couple of little tips to consider; I think our shower practice in the camper van works well (based on military practice, apparently), if you want to reduce water. Get wet, turn water off, lather up, rinse off. We aim to use 70L (the fresh water tank) over 4 days including cooking but not drinking, when away. That includes one shower each, but topping up with two or more

Also, I now run my washing during the day only if the sun is shining (so the solar is giving us free) or overnight on the overnight rate of our tariff 13.5p vs 32.3p pkwh as it is less than half the price (also using about a third of the detergent they suggest, and on either 30c or cold, and always the eco wash except for towels). Once a month, towels go in on a 90c with either soda crystals or white vinegar, to stop them going crispy. The hot water does most of the cleaning.

I've been watching the increasing suggestions in the newspapers, that we wash our clothes too often (as well as ourselves in the bath/shower). I think it depends what we have been doing

  • @Suffolk_lass, you are completely right - I will often have a bath on a football night as I need to warm up after football but it's not necessary. I wash clothes too often for sure though have gotten into the habit of checking DS school uniform and if it isn't dirty or smelly he wears it again the next day. The only thing I don't wear twice is underwear and socks (unless I've literally worn them for a very very short amount of time - socks that is). If I'm WFH and the weather is ok, I do wear the same trousers and jumper for a few days, I just alternate between 2/3 jumpers over the week or two. Same with work dresses, if I've been in the office and I've not been too hot (or spilt my lunch down it), I will rewear the dress another day, I assess each situation.

We've been using the washing pods, as I know that I'm using the right amount (one pod per wash and always a decent sized wash too), but our clothes are very static since switching so not sure what I'll do once the final few have run out.

  • Happy weekend!

I didn’t feel great after finishing work last night, I’ve had a decent nights sleep but have woken tired today. I have a doctors appt this morning (unrelated, it’s for a smear test, though I was shocked when they offered me a Saturday, so shocked I asked them to repeat the date and time lol).

Dog walk later (circa 6 miles) and I need to start decluttering the ironing pile, it’s climbing the wall of the utility room.

Out this evening with a couple of friends for a catch up, nothing too extravagant, I’ll be home by 9pm, if not earlier (covered by personal budget as this evening has been booked for a while).

Going to try and snooze for another hour to see if that helps any,
    Wendy x

I also had a Saturday appointment for a scan at the hospital last month (routine, clear) - and I was surprised. The lovely woman said there is less pressure at the weekend, we can park, so can they, the clinic had a ready stream of appointments coming and going, with three scan rooms running. Some women my age and older, lots of lovely pregnant women (with partners) [- I think it's very easy to forget how exciting that time was until you see it again, btw]. Everyone was relaxed and the appointments list was reducing dramatically. And, for me, the much quieter outpatients corridors meant I was less anxious about catching anything from sick people or infected staff, with flu, shingles and norovirus hitting them hard atm.

I hope you feel better today

  • @Suffolk_lass, I concur. I think it will be less stressful, much quieter, and I didn’t have to take time out of work (we get time off for appts but it doesn’t mean the work is reduced any lol).

I didn’t sleep anymore but waking up a bit now so all power through :)

    have a great day x
