Many ordinary cars have a high "lip" on the boot (if that is the correct terminology), which makes lifting heavy items in/out difficult. Some 4x4 cars have a flat loading area into the boot space, my old Jeep Cherokee was like that if my memory serves me correctly. My current Seat Leon is a pain the back when lifting heavy suitcases in/out of the boot.

It's not just the height of the seat, check how easy it is to load/unload the boot area.

Berlingo is a good option and practical but it does feel like you're driving a small van (at least it did to me). Honda Jazz is as reliable as you're used to but may be on the smaller size for your needs, or a used Mercedes B-Class, they have very comfortable seats, easy to drive and has a high (enough) road position. If you're open to small SUVs/Crossovers, then there's plenty on the market in your budget too.
Thanks for the thoughts. I hadn’t thought of Mercedes so will have a look if those are in my price range etc.

Have a look at a VW Tiguan, see if that would be good for you.
I will do that. Thanks for replying

I seem to remember the standard Honest John Saturday Telegraph answer to this question was a Suzuki Vitara. Auto trader has a ton of them in your price bracket.
Thanks Jimbo. I’d been wondering about a Vitara, so will research those. Thanks for replying

    TBH.
Go rounds lots of garages & sit in as many cars as possible.
Yes, normally I’d agree with you but as I mentioned my arthritis lets me down with walking very far at all so I wanted to target certain car makes and go to those. Thanks very much.

I’m thinking of replacing my Jazz because it is difficult for me to get out of as it’s low down.
That’s good to know, thanks. Perhaps lower seats are a thing either Honda. Like my last car an Accord

Skoda Yeti? Looks fairly high and plenty of room in the back with the seats down.
Thanks for replying. I hadn’t thought of a Yeti so will certainly look into those

Sizuiki Vitara or Seat Ateca, both reliable and not to big…the Vitara will be cheaper than the Ateca and the Seat is a Vw in disguise

Thanks for replying. I’ll definitely look at both of these

This website has the option to list cars by high drivers seat - and other things.      .

This is such a great site! Thank you for replying, really helpful link

Hyundai Kona might fit the bill or the Tucson if you want something a bit bigger.
Thank you so much for your thoughts. I’ll look at these. I hadn’t before as I thought that they were out of my price range
