Car for an Oldie with arthritis
Hello. I need to buy a secondhand car for myself and would welcome advice.
Does anyone have any recommendations, please? I was thinking a Berlingo (I think that I heard somewhere that old people drive them a lot, so any thoughts on these would be welcome🙂), but I am really open to advice.
Thank you
- I’m a pensioner and I have arthritis in my leg and back so need a car with higher driving seats (my last car, a wonderful Honda Accord was SO low down it was very painful to get out of and really low down).
- It needs to have a fairly good boot as I’m getting a foldable mobility scooter too.
- i don’t like very small cars. And don’t need a big car
- Something as safe and Reliable as my old Honda
- And I really can’t afford a new car. Budget, really no more than £10-11,000.

Berlingo is a good option and practical but it does feel like you're driving a small van (at least it did to me). Honda Jazz is as reliable as you're used to but may be on the smaller size for your needs, or a used Mercedes B-Class, they have very comfortable seats, easy to drive and has a high (enough) road position. If you're open to small SUVs/Crossovers, then there's plenty on the market in your budget too.1

Have a look at a VW Tiguan, see if that would be good for you.1

I seem to remember the standard Honest John Saturday Telegraph answer to this question was a Suzuki Vitara. Auto trader has a ton of them in your price bracket.1

Go rounds lots of garages & sit in as many cars as possible.Life in the slow lane3 -

Skoda Yeti? Looks fairly high and plenty of room in the back with the seats down.2

This website has the option to list cars by high drivers seat - and other useful things.
But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

Sizuiki Vitara or Seat Ateca, both reliable and not to big…the Vitara will be cheaper than the Ateca and the Seat is a Vw in disguise1

Hyundai Kona might fit the bill or the Tucson if you want something a bit bigger.2

I would suggest visiting one of the many car supermarkets that are around and do some tyre kicking etc as they generally have a wide range of makes and models. See what tickles your fancy
Not sure I would necessarily hand over any money prior to some hard research though2
